Description

The CCS and WGSI host the launch of Naniki, by Caribbean Author Oonya Kempadoo.

Co-sponsored by School of the Environment and Another Story Bookshop.

 All are welcome.

Naniki, is a futuristic shapeshifter that takes place in and in relation with the Caribbean Seas, confronting head on environmental and ecological issues in relation to the Americas.

"It was, and continues to be, informal and organic research, following the main characters into Taino culture, Caribbean people’s origins, drawing on legends and knowledge from my childhood in Guyana." – Oonya Kempadoo.

"Beginning with trying to find out more about environmental efforts in the Caribbean, I started online research, contacted organizations, and through networking and conversations, co-founded Carisealand.org to begin mapping conservation projects throughout the region." – Oonya Kempadoo.

"Ecological research about marine health in the Caribbean, climate change, endangered species, is ongoing – beyond the publication of the novel - as the core concept continues its life as a story project." – Oonya Kempadoo.
